Free A.I. Guide for Small Business Owners

5 Claude Prompts Every Small Business Owner Should Steal

The difference between a useless A.I. answer and a great one is usually five seconds of better asking. Swap these five lazy prompts for the expert versions below — copy, paste, and go.

At Go High Level Designs we build small business websites in Goodyear, AZ — and we use A.I. every single day to do it. The biggest lesson we've learned: Claude (or any A.I.) is only as good as the question you ask it. "Make it better" gets you mush. Giving it a role, a job, and rules gets you work you can actually use.

Here are five prompts we see Goodyear and West Valley business owners type every week — and the upgraded version to use instead. Tap Copy Prompt under any card, paste it into Claude, and fill in the [BRACKETS] with your own stuff.

1. Instead of “Make it better”

Use this when you have a draft — an email, a flyer, your website copy — and you want a real edit, not a rewrite of things that already worked.

Claude prompt card 1 — what to say instead of 'make it better': adopt the role of an expert editor
Copy & paste into Claude
Adopt the role of an expert editor. Before you change anything, tell me:

- the one job this piece has to do
- the 3 places it loses me
- what you'd cut first

Then rewrite it fixing only those 3. Don't touch anything that already works. My draft [PASTE IT]

2. Instead of “Check this”

Use this before anything important leaves your business — a proposal, a price sheet, a legal-ish email — so the embarrassing mistakes get caught by Claude instead of your customer.

Claude prompt card 2 — what to say instead of 'check this': adopt the role of an expert fact-checker
Copy & paste into Claude
Adopt role of an expert fact-checker. Go through my document line by line and flag:

- every number I haven't sourced
- every claim that falls apart if one assumption is wrong
- first thing a sharp reader would question

Don't fix anything. List them from most to least embarrassing. My document [PASTE]

3. Instead of “What do you think?”

A.I. loves to tell you your idea is great. This prompt forces it to argue against you first — the cheapest stress test your next business idea will ever get.

Claude prompt card 3 — what to say instead of 'what do you think': adopt the role of an expert investor
Copy & paste into Claude
Adopt the role of an expert investor who's watched 1,000 ideas like mine fail.

Give me the 3 strongest reasons this won't work, then the one change that would make you back it.

Don't open with anything positive.

My idea [DESCRIBE IT]

4. Instead of “Help me decide”

For the real decisions — new truck or second employee, raise prices or add a service. It makes Claude interview you first, then commit to an answer.

Claude prompt card 4 — what to say instead of 'help me decide': adopt the role of an expert decision coach
Copy & paste into Claude
Adopt the role of an expert decision coach. Ask me 3 questions one at a time, then tell me:

- which option you'd pick and why
- what I'd regret most with each one
- the cheapest way to test it before I commit

Don't say 'it depends'. My options [OPTION A AND OPTION B]

5. Instead of “Explain this”

Perfect for all the stuff running a business throws at you — SEO, taxes, insurance, A.I. itself. Three explanations, zero jargon, and a check that it actually stuck.

Claude prompt card 5 — what to say instead of 'explain this': adopt the role of an expert teacher
Copy & paste into Claude
Adopt the role of an expert teacher. Explain my topic 3 times:

- like I'm 12
- like I'm a smart beginner
- like I'm being tested on it tomorrow

Then ask me one question to check I got it. Don't use jargon you haven't explained.
